Some basic information about what a Yoga class involves...

The Class

Lessons last either an hour, or an hour and a half. We start with getting our minds focused on the present and what we are going to be doing in the class. This is followed by preparing the body and the breath - working our way around the body - getting rid of tension and enabling the body to move more freely in order to be able to enjoy the practice that follows.

There then follows a series of exercises aiming to work on whatever the focus for the day's class might be - it could be a particular exercise we are aiming to improve, it may be a focus on a particular part of the body, or a particular theme. The class always ends with a relaxation session,  giving the body time to assimilate the benefits of the Yoga practice,  aiming to have you leaving feeling calm and relaxed,  but at the same time energized.

Start Time

Please arrive at classes on time, arriving late disturbs other students. If you are late, please enter the room quietly and unobtrusively.

Wear loose clothing that allows you to move easily and remain comfortable. You may wish to bring warm clothing to wear during relaxation at the end of the class. Yoga is best performed in bare feet - wearing socks means that you don't have the grip you need to get the most out of the practice.

What else do you need?

A Yoga mat is recommended to make many of the exercises more comfortable and to provide a good grip. You may well wish to buy your own, although I always try to have spare mats that students can use if necessary.

Try to avoid eating in the hour and a half before your class. You won't be able to exercise comfortably on a full stomach. You may wish to bring a bottle of water to sip during the class, particularly during hot weather.

I need a little basic information about you before joining the class. Please make sure that I am aware of any health conditions that you have so that we can tailor your Yoga practice to meet your needs. I will ask new students to fill in an information sheet providing details of relevant medical conditions and also contact details.
